It was the ninth month of the year

November is well underway. Did you know that November’s name comes from the word «novem,» which means «nine» in Latin. It was the ninth month of the year in ancient Rome, but on modern calendars it is the eleventh month. King Numa Pompilius decreed that it would only have 29 days, but the 30th day was restored under the reign of Julius Caesar.

Bodø is hosting The Norwegian National Road Race Championships this year

Starting today! 19th – 26 June.

An event for each category of rider; Men, women, junior, and under 23 riders. The event also includes the Norwegian National Time Trial Championships and the Norwegian National Criterium Championships.

Held annually since 1946.

North of the Arctic Circle

The winners of each event are awarded with a symbolic jersey featuring the Norwegian flag, which can be worn by the rider at other road racing events to show their status as national champion. The champion’s stripes can be combined into a sponsored rider’s team kit design for this purpose.

Bodø is a town and a municipality in Nordland county. The town lies just north of the Arctic Circle.

It´s actually not Peter Sagan we spot in the picture above. It´s of course Bergens promising young hope Andreas Skæjlo Jacobsen.

Good luck Andreas and all other riders!

This is my favorite
– Jan-Harald Finstad (@janfinstad62 →)

The picture is shot in Geitvågen/Mjelle. 10 km north of Bodø city center.

Unique bathing facilities so far north

The area consists of a lot of forest and green areas. There is also a lagoon here with seawater which is closed by a causeway so that they can shut the water inside the bay and thus achieve a higher temperature than in the sea outside. This provides a unique bathing facilities so far north in Norway! However, it can be wise to wait a few months before you go for a swim;)

Landegode

On the horizon with a lovely sunset, we see Landegode. A 30.3-square-kilometer island. The highest point is the 802-meters tall Rypdalstinden.

It has its own primary school, the smallest in Bodø, and a grocery store. Landegode has speedboat connection to Bodø.
