Maybe the highest road in all of Northern Europe
This is perhaps Norway’s toughest climb and you will probably not get higher on asphalt here – its maybe the highest road in all of Northern Europe too.
Jotunheimen, in Lom municipality.
The mountain goats playground
From the exit at Galdesand, 19 km west of Lom it goes upwards. 13.1 kilometers, 1346 meters, an average of 10% incline and long portions of around 13 to 15% – up to Galdhøpiggen Summer Ski Centre at 1850 meters above sea level.
The asphalt is rough. It’s brutal and windy. There is also no place to seek shelter or rest until the top is reached. This is the mountain goats playground!
By comparison the famous Alpe d’Huez in France is 14 km with 8% incline, Monte Zoncolan (Italy) 7.5 km with 13% and Tryvann (Oslo) has 5.5 kilometers by 7%.
For those who hunt KOM’s on Strava the owner here are Arne Post (@arnepost) with 53 minutes and 58 seconds in July 2013. Beat that!

Juvasshytta
On the top you reach Juvasshytta. A mountain tourist station with a restaurant and accommodation. Used as a base station for walks to the summit of Galdhøpiggen. The highest mountain in Norway, Scandinavia and Northern Europe, at 2.469 m above sea level.
The area and the road is usually open from May to September, and closed the rest of the year.
Good luck!
